Wedding Anniversary and College Move-In ~ Past, Present, Future Years
29 years ago we said “I do” in a beautiful wedding ceremony in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. We celebrated with family and friends in a ball room accented with purple and drank a lot of champagne!
Each year we have marked the occasion differently. A few times we have gone away, but mostly we have either had a little bit fancy of a dinner out or cozy family dinners at home.
Eighteen years ago, we celebrated with a newborn. Our third child, first son, was born just shy of two weeks earlier. Our attention was on him and the girls. He rocked our world and we learned that going from two children to three was more than a difference of one. They now outnumbered us and we had to split ourselves in creative ways to address their needs and give them each undivided attention.
Fast forward eighteen years to today. We marked our day by leaving our third child, first son, at college for his freshman year. As Chris and I clicked together our Fresca filled cups at Blaze Pizza, halfway between Kyle’s dorm in central Georgia and our front door in central Florida, we saluted the journey of our life together so far and the adventure of raising four children.
It hasn’t been easy. Through many moves mostly at my insistence, career changes mostly due to my short attention span, and the ebb and flow of life, we are not where we should be after all these years yet we are where we are together. For that, I will gladly celebrate our anniversary with a 30 minute pizza break in our five and a half hour drive home.
Words to Start These Years
To our third child, first son, who rocked our world eighteen years ago, you’ve got this. We already miss you… the loudness of your presence and the kindness of your heart. Even though your brother has already turned the room you shared into his own private computer lab and I really will enjoy the space in my studio that became the designated staging area for packing the cars, you not being here daily will take a little bit of adjustment.
Kyle, go rock your new world! We wish you well. We wish you strength. You have achieved so much and are now living your goal of playing college tennis. We are cheering you on academically and athletically. This is your moment. These are your years to explore and enjoy, to discover and grow. Spread your wings and fly. We will always have a place for you in the nest.
Happy Anniversary, Chris! We are on the way to making our thirtieth year one of changes that get us settled. Hopefully, our celebration will look a little different next year and if we are back at Blaze, we’ll get the wine. I love you!
Here’s a peak at a few pages of my Easenza wedding journal. It has some of our original photos from our wedding day complemented with reflections I have written in the last couple of years.
The Apache Blessing is perfect for our anniversary salute and our salute to Kyle at the beginning of his college adventure. Please help us wish him well!
